How do we protect your information?

WithSocrates data is stored with Microsoft Azure. Microsoft Azure runs in datacenters managed and operated by Microsoft. These geographically dispersed datacenters comply with key industry standards, such as ISO/IEC 27001:2013 and NIST SP 800-53, for security and reliability. The datacenters are managed, monitored, and administered by Microsoft operations staff. Microsoft staff have no access to the personal data stored in WithSocrates.

Our website is scanned on a regular basis for security holes and known vulnerabilities in order to make your visit to our site as safe as possible.

Your personal information is contained behind secured networks and is only accessible by a limited number of persons who have special access rights to such systems, and are required to keep the information confidential. In addition, all sensitive/credit information you supply is encrypted via Secure Socket Layer (SSL) technology.

We implement a variety of security measures when a user places an order enters, submits, or accesses their information to maintain the safety of your personal information.

All transactions are processed through a gateway provider and are not stored or processed on our servers.

 

How does WithSocrates protect children’s privacy?

WithSocrates accounts are created by parents and educational institutions. WithSocrates not permit children under the age of 13 to create an account and does not knowingly collect personally identifying information from children under the age of 13 without the consent of a parent or educational institution. WithSocrates may collect and store question answers provided by users of accounts created by parents and educational institutions for the purpose of providing feedback to the user and educational institution and for compiling reports and awards. WithSocrates may also collect and store an email address provided by users of accounts created by parents and educational institutions for the purpose of password reset. WithSocrates will not ask children under age 13 for more information, as a condition of participation, than is reasonably necessary to participate in a given activity. If any information is disclosed to WithSocrates by a child under the age of 13, that child’s parent may contact WithSocrates using the contact information below to ascertain the information collected and/or to request its deletion.

 

COPPA (Children Online Privacy Protection Act)

When it comes to the collection of personal information from children under the age of 13 years old, the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) puts parents in control. The Federal Trade Commission, United States’ consumer protection agency, enforces the COPPA Rule, which spells out what operators of websites and online services must do to protect children’s privacy and safety online.

During our registration process we ask the child to provide certain information to facilitate security, account validation, and notification purposes. The information we request includes:

  • Child’s first name
  • Child’s member account username and password

The above information is used to create the initial request for an account. Following account validation through consent from a parent or guardian the account can include additional details:

  • Last name
  • Additional profile information

About the collection of the parent email address: Per COPPA’s requirements for sites targeting audiences of children 12 years or younger, we request the parent or guardian’s email address prior to any collection of personal information from the child. We will not utilize the parent email address for any purpose other than parental consent unless the parent or guardian has expressly agreed to receive email marketing materials or other communications.
